The Blair Witch Project (wool bases)
This colorway is a moody and liminal, shadowy charcoal brown with hints of ash. A grainy video portrait of the last glimpse of twilight before the Black Hills Forest slips into complete darkness. The degree of stillness or dread that it evokes depends on how lost you are, and if you hear the sound of branch-cracking footsteps nearby…
🎥 On superwash bases, it comes across as a deep, near-night ebony with subtle tonal variation and occasional whispers of silver birch bark. In cool lighting it’s almost charcoal, but in warmer lighting the brown and subtle twilight forest undertones come through more clearly.
🎥 On non-superwash bases it’s an unnervingly neutral, smoky gray brown, with sparse shadows, like a photo that’s fresh out of an Instax and halfway developed. In warmer lighting, the faintest hint of a lilac halo effect comes through.
“The Blair Witch Project” follows three student filmmakers who venture into the Maryland woods to investigate a local legend, only to become lost and increasingly unsettled by eerie occurrences. Presented as found footage, the film blurs reality and fiction, building dread through unseen terror and psychological unraveling.
Though technically from 1999, I watched it in the 2000s with my dad who’s always encouraged my love of horror. I was around 12 years old at the time, and we paired it with “The Forth Kind” (which I also love) and I was immediately hooked on found footage horror. Seeing these films at a certain young age too, when you’re forming your beliefs and ideas of what is real and fake, was a magical thing. It felt real, raw, and totally mind-warping.
