The Grandmother (wool bases) πŸ‘΅πŸ’

from $30.00

A playfully disturbed blend of expired film colors: sickly algal blue-green and haunting lilac, emerging from a murky gray backdrop. A smattering of monarch orange and crimson speckles pays homage to the kind of quaint bouquet a child might lovingly gather for their grandmother. πŸ’πŸŽžοΈ

The Grandmother (1970) is one of David Lynch’s first films; it’s a very special and super surreal, atmospheric, and mostly silent experimental 33 minute film that tells the story of a young boy trapped in an abusive, loveless home. Isolated and desperate for kindness, he plants a mysterious seed that grows into a living grandmother…a figure of warmth and protection in an otherwise brutal environment. πŸ«‚

Using a mix of live-action and unsettling animation, Lynch crafts a nightmarish vision of childhood trauma, but within the darkness, he fosters a fragile sense of hope: the idea that even in the most desolate circumstances, something nurturing and good can still take root. πŸ₯Ή

β€’On superwash bases the dirty teal and speckles of orange and crimson really pop, in a low-key kind of way
β€’On non-superwash bases the teal, orange and crimson take on a hazier, higher exposure look

If you notice a darker base in these pictures…well, it’s our new Josie Noir DK!
It’s 20% yak, 20% silk, 60% superwash merino 🀀
- With this colorway, the naturally gray yak fibers make the vibe a little warmer and a little greasier, like it’s been painted on a shop rag canvas, oh so avant-garde πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŽ¨πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸŽ¨
