Shrimp Cocktail 🦐

from $28.00
Sold Out

A shrimpy, salmony coral with subtle pupil-black speckles 🪸 🍸

Early on in “The Substance,” Elisabeth Sparkle is faced with a restaurant meeting where sleazy TV executive, Harvey (played by Dennis Quaid), sloppily devours shrimp while delivering thinly veiled ramblings about women aging out of their value to the entertainment industry.

His grotesque act of haphazardly ripping off shrimp heads and sucking them dry becomes a visceral metaphor for the objectification and disposability of women in show business. “At 50, it stops,” he says, smacking his lips. When Elisabeth asks, “What stops?” he jiggles the shrimp in his hand and shrinks away from answering directly.

This Shrimp Cocktail colorway symbolizes the collision between desire and disgust; a shrimp can be a symbol of cuteness, indulgence, or, in the wrong context, expendablity and revulsion.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒🦐 I’m planning to knit a cute LaPrawnda shrimp family with this colorway! I included the first page of the pattern; download the full version on Ravelry!

This collection is a preorder 🧶
Turnaround time is estimated to be 3-8 weeks 🗓️
We aim to fulfill orders roughly in the order that they are placed 💖

Important Yarn Details ↓

• All yarn is gently washed and rinsed. Each skein is lovingly hand-dyed, which makes them all unique. Please be mindful that upon first wash, a little dye may bleed, just like a good new pair of jeans! Even though many of these bases are superwash merino wool, I still recommend hand washing to prolong the life of your yarn/garments!

• I have done my best to accurately capture the colors of the skein, however, colors may vary slightly.

• Swatch shown is knit with my Donna DK base.
