My Top Ten Favorite Horror Movies from 2025

Okay…2025 was such a divisive year for horror films! From original, creepy concepts soaked in supernatural dread, to epic additions to beloved franchises, this year felt like it had something for everyone, it sure did for me! When curating this list, I thought it was so wild that each and every film I loved from this year was completely different than the last.
I mean, the horror sub-genres of my top three favorites are mystery-thriller, post-apocalyptic thriller, and Norwegian fantasy-drama-dark comedy-body horror. 😂
A common thread between a lot of these films though is grief, which is a topic I feel like filmmakers that had movies that came out in 2025 dealt with in such crazy different yet effective ways. It felt really special, given that we’re living in a very sensitive time right now, and also because I personally have been mourning the loss of my creative idol David Lynch, who passed away one year ago.
On this note too, The Philippou Brothers, who directed “Bring Her Back” (which is on this list (they also made “Talk to Me” from 2022)) were dealing with the loss of a dear friend while making “Bring Her Back,” and it really shows. It’s incredibly emotional (I was ugly crying by the end). It felt quite releasing to cry like that during a horror movie, tbh.

I wasn’t able to see all of the films I wanted to in time to make this list, but I’m super stoked to keep this movie-watching train going, it’s a big part of what helps fuel SRH! 🖤
